Many have called us madmen, but only we know the truth. We, the followers of the Prince of Change, seek his wisdom and knowledge. Sealed within this tome are the secrets of everything we could learn. Our only hope is that you, too, seek out Breytaöllu and find wisdom even we could not. As my quill presses upon the very paper you are reading, the Deus Army invades the palace. We fear for our lives, as the only limit Breytaöllu has is his refusal to comment on current affairs. "Oil, Magic" Oil has magic properties. It carries with it an ounce of the otherworld, a terrible place formed from the melted heaps of realities just like our own. Oil can be injected between crystalline structures to create a window to the otherworld, which can be projected onto surfaces with a strong enough light. It can also be consumed by a deus fur to increase their magical power, but it is greatly toxic to the bodies of both man and fur. Even an entirely powerless human could harness magic if they had only drank enough oil. "Otherworld, Void, Despair" The otherworld is a nearly infinite expanse of darkness, both part of Despair and it's meal. It is as if reality was a large chunk of metal, the impurities drain away to be absorbed while the stronger metal merely melts into a facade of what it once was. This facade is the otherworld, the only thing Despair could not ingest, the remains of pure anger. Even Breytaöllu does not know if the people trapped in the otherworld are truly people, or just figments of them that were simply too angry to die. He ponders if there's even a difference at all. "Void, Despair" Despair is a being far larger and more powerful than even our entire reality. Breytaöllu says it gorges itself upon realities, and that our reality is special, as it was made inside its body like a tumor. The force of a new reality being made severely weakened Despair, but cracked itself in the process. Now, the blood of Despair runs through our reality, piercing into the worlds. Breytaöllu speaks of a great warrior created by our reality itself, who fends off the armies of Despair. "Moon, Yhongi" The moon is not just a rock, but a planet like Earth. It has air that can be breathed, and it is home to creatures like our own. Its main inhabitant is a species called yhongi, who look like deus furs. They live in sprawling underground cities, mining deeper to the core of the moon which each layer of home they build. They are a largely peaceful race, but they do have factions, and each one controls a hole city. Underneath the first layer of the moon's crust are massive rivers and lakes, which the yhongi drink from. The yhongi's food sources are mostly fruit-like fungi they cultivate and boar-like animals that roam the surface. The boars eat a type of tree with no leaves, but instead have an expansive network of roots which it absorbs nutrients from. All of these creatures are as white as the moon's rock, and bathe only in the dust that covers the planet. "Yhongi, Anatomy, Birth" The yhongi may look similar to deus furs, but they are not at all. They have no sexual organs, no bladder, and their stomach is a tube that uses extremely hard bumps instead of a sac that uses acid. The have additional organs as well, such as a sac that rests just above their stomach that grows when full for long periods of time. It is filled with a highly calorically dense and nutrionally rich sludge when the yhongus is full, and it will slowly drain into the stomach if not fed. The yhongi also empty the contents of this sac into their esophagus, which they regurgitate into the mouths of a starving yhongus. As the yhongi are extremely altruistic, they will do this without hesitation, even to a member of a different faction. As they have no sexual organs, they reproduce asexually. When they have enough calories and nutrients, they will begin to develop a clone of themself inside of a womb-like organ in their tail. The tail gets larger as they get fatter, as well as when the clone grows. Once the clone is done, the parent yhongus will feel a tingling over their entire body shortly before the bottom of the tail rips open. The parent's tail will grow a new womb above the previous one, which will slowly grow an underneath as the child yhongus is developed. Once the child yhongus is born, the previous womb and the skin covering it will slowly slough off over a few days. This detached skin is usually turned into clothing for the child yhongus to wear, and the leftover organ is devoured by the child yhongus to start off completely full. Even though the yhongi are given clothing when they first are born, most of them prefer to be nude as it is seen as cleaner, as they're always covered in dust. The child yhongus isn't actually a child, but instead a fully grown clone. These clones are highly imperfect, but always healthy. They feature different patterns of fur, different body types, and sometimes even horns or extra tails. The first few days they only know the most basic aspects of the parent's life, but quickly start to figure out more complex thought and personality. "Breytaöllu" Breytaöllu is a godlike figure with no actual form, and a part of Despair's tumor. He gives out knowledge to anyone who calls for him, but he can only write in books. His name means "Change Everything" in icelandic, as he is a god of Change, History, and Knowledge. If you invoke Breytaöllu's name and forfeit your soul, you can become the newest Breytaöllu and be saved from any mortal ailment. However, this only happens when Breytaöllu wishes for it to be, and when he does, it's usually because you were intended to become the new Breytaöllu. "The Deepest Forest, The Darkest Forest" Humanity found the new world extremely early by going through Russia and sailing to Alaska in the year 992. The entire landmass, including the mountains, were covered in giant forest they called the "Deepest Forest". Humanity was facinated with the new world, and populations began to soar as more and more men were needed to carve through the dense forest to make new paths and towns. The population of humanity continued to soar for a century afterwards, as huge troves of new resources were dug out and collected from the new world. Humanity eventually cut a line through the entire forest, severing the two continents. The moment this happened, the shadows underneath the trees grew incredibly dark, then the sky itself turned pitch black. Screams and roars were heard from everywhere for hours until the darkness was lifted and it revealed the night sky. The next day, the forests were still dark, and people saw things move unnaturally between the trees. Monsters started coming from the woods at night and mauled anyone unlucky enough to be alone. People were too scared to leave their houses, so thousands of them died in a war of attrition against the unholy beasts that stalked from the woods. Supply chains were shattered, the paths, surrounded by trees, were dangerous. They called it the "Darkest Forest." Many welcomed their deaths by allowing monsters inside just to end their suffering, but some of them were lucky enough to not die. The ones that survived were stained with the otherworld's magic, cursing their children to wield what killed their families in the first place, and making them look like the wolfmen from the woods. This is how deus furs were born, and why they can wield magic. "Splinters, Void" Splinters are crust off of a decaying piece of Despair. When Despair is losing ground against our reality, it retreats and leaves itself to rot. These pieces are sometimes angry enough at their defeat to remain physical for a short time instead of vanishing. The pieces can occasionally fall to Earth and touch a living being with enough despair, anger, or pride to fuse with them. The splinter will change the form of it's host to fit its needs, and feed on feelings the host has. These splinters usually have soft and purple flesh with orange bones and horns. They will sometimes reintigrate into normal life, and sometimes disappear to live in the woods with the other monsters. "Void, Despair, Nihil, Spes" Once Despair invaded our reality, it made a physical form to more easily exist in one place. It was called Nihil, and it acted both like a commander and as Despair itself. The universe gathered its own force together, creating a golem called Spes. Reality bent itself to combat despair's blood from reaching too deeply into itself, and Spes fought Nihil to drive Despair back out of reality. This fight has lasted for countless eons, from the birth of the universe to today they still fight, inching closer to destroying the Earth. "Yhingy, Yhongi" When the forest went dark, the great fountain of darkness hit a small mountain on the moon. It just so happened that one yhongus was climbing the mountain to prove herself. When the darkness hit, it covered the yhongus completely, soaking itself into every part of her. It also blew a chunk of the mountain off, causing them both to drift through space for a bit before landing in the middle of the darkest forest. The piece of the mountain that was left after the impact was named Moon Rock, and the yhongus was completely changed from the rest of her species. Her eyes were holes into a space that couldn't have physically been there, and her irises were suddenly white glowing rings that somehow still worked as eyes. She no longer felt hungry, and her grey fur turned deep black, as well as all of her insides and her fluids. Her fur pattern would constantly shift, and she could make fluid from the sac above her stomach at will. She could even make the fluid do things to others when ingested, like turn them docile. She searched around the woods for years, trying to get a monster to say something to her, but many were frozen in fear or simply bowed to her. Eventually, she found humanity and became a symbol of fun and joy, always trying to have the most fun possible and give others a good time as well. "Deadman's Journal" A deadman's journal is a journal that forest explorers keep on their person at all times. They are supposed to write down observations on the forest and its effects so that it can be studied and eventually defeated. "Magic, Deus Fur, Pyromancy" Some furs and rarely humans can possess the ability to manipulate the magic spread from the forest. Its most common type is pyromancy, the ability to create fire from burning magic passively gathered from the environment and stored within the body. Pyromancers do not burn from their own fire, but can be burnt by things hotter than what they can manage. Different magic provides resistances to their element, and the ability to regulate the opposite element. "Magic, Soul, Michael Earhart" The souls of those with powerful magic are easily effected by magic. Charred souls slowly turn extremities and hair dark, while frozen souls slowly turn extremeties and hair white. Electrified souls change the color of the veins, usually a striking blue or a dark black. Using magic, or having magic used on you, is usually not strong enough to effect the soul. However, the soul can be affected when in extreme grief where the body releases and manipulates magic more than it can handle.
